Donor Information

The Spina Bifida Association of Wisconsin, Inc. (SBAWI) serves over 350 Wisconsin households affected by Spina Bifida. An additional 200 households of friends, family members and other support people also receive services from SBAWI. Thousands more are reached each year with the important message of how folic acid helps prevent Spina Bifida.

Your support is vital to maintaining our important programs, services and outreach efforts. In the past few decades, medical advances and understanding of the complexities of Spina Bifida have progressed so that those born with Spina Bifida continue to live longer and healthier lives. Therefore, more and more people count on us each year, and we in turn, count on the support of you, our generous donors.

There are many ways you can support SBAWI:

Sponsor or participate in a fundraising event, encourage your friends and co-workers to do the same.

Make a cash donation. Use the donation form to indicate if your gift is in memory or honor of someone.

A bequest, or a gift made through your will, is one of the simplest ways to support SBAWI. When you make your bequest, you may designate it for a specific purpose or program, such as Folic Acid Outreach, mentoring or camperships or leave it undesignated so that it will go to where the need is most urgent. Bequests and other planned gifts should be made with appropriate counsel from your lawyer or financial advisor.Network for Good logo

GoodSearch: You Search...We Give! What if SBAWI earned a penny every time you searched the Internet? Well, now we can! GoodSearch.com is a new search engine that donates half its revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. You use it just as you would any search engine, and it's powered by Yahoo!, so you get great results.

Just go to http://www.goodsearch.com and be sure to enter Spina Bifida Association of Wisconsin as the charity you want to support. Just 500 of us searching four times a day will raise about $7300 in a year without anyone spending a dime! And, be sure to spread the word!

We Care at Pick ‘n Save

The We Care program helps non-profit organizations raise additional funds through supportive shoppers who use their Advantage Plus Savers Club card. A percentage of the total We Care dollars spent at participating Wisconsin Pick ‘n Save stores will be given back to each participating non-profit organization.

The We Care program provides customers with an easy way to give to their favorite charities. Each time a shopper uses the Advantage Plus Savers Club card, the non-profit organization of their choice receives a cash rebate. The amount the organization receives is a percentage of the total amount of We Care dollars that Pick ‘n Save contributes. SBAWI organization number is 724100.

Simplified SCRIP turns everyday purchases into cash for SBAWI. There are hundreds of gift cards to choose from. They are the same gift cards that you purchase at the store, but these cards earn a donation for SBAWI.  Because the merchant issuing the gift card makes the contribution, the gift card is worth its full face value.

How your donations help

Monetary donations can help in so many ways. A gift of $25 can cover the costs of sending packets of information to 5 families. The information and support families receive from SBAWI can go a long way in helping them feel like they are not alone. No matter what size gift you make, you can help to positively affect the lives of individuals living with Spina Bifida throughout Wisconsin.

$100 assists 1 family of a newborn. Families with new babies are sent a packet of information to help them access the resources they will need to help their young ones grow up healthy, happy and strong. A gift, such as a hand-knitted blanket, or a latex free toy is included to help each family celebrate the birth of their baby. A small financial grant is given to help families with expenses such as gas to and from the hospital, or childcare for siblings. SBAWI sends similar packets at significant milestones throughout life, ensuring families and individuals know what resources remain available to them.

$150 covers the cost of one educational/networking workshop. Spina bifida is a complex birth defect, affecting many aspects of a person's life. Health and well-being takes much more effort and attention for people with Spina Bifida than for most people. Our workshops provide opportunities to gather information, keep informed of the latest in care and treatment, and network with other families. All workshops are provided free of charge.

$325 provides adult programs. Your gift of $150-$325 will provide adults with Spina Bifida important opportunities for networking and education: $150 will pay for a networking event or workshop; $300 will provide 12 adults with the Health Guide for Adults Living with Spina Bifida; $325 covers registration to attend the national Spina Bifida Association conference priceless experience for attendees.

$400 covers 4 Teen Rap Sessions. Its hard being a teen, and when you are a teen with a disability, there are extra challenges. Teens with Spina Bifida are able to meet monthly with other teens and a psychologist, and rap about their hopes, fears and goals for the future through SBAWI's Teen Rap Sessions. They have the opportunity to share stories, practice social skills and develop strategies for dealing with difficult situations. Teens may attend these rap sessions at no cost. Parents love the Rap Sessions too, as it gives them the opportunity for their own hour of networking while they wait for their children.

$500 sends 1 child to a wheelchair basketball camp. SBAWI believes in the importance of summer camp opportunities for youth. Camp helps youth develop independent living skills, self esteem, healthy habits, and -  if the youth chooses to go to basketball camp - basketball skills. The UW Whitewater Wheelchair Sports camps continue to be the most popular camps among the children who receive SBAWI's Campership grants. Through SBAWI's Campership Program, youth can attend the summer camp of their choice.
