Folic Acid Awareness |
Folic Acid Awareness Research studies have shown that folic acid, a B-vitamin, can dramatically reduce the risk of having a child born with Spina Bifida. All women of childbearing age, including those who are not planning a pregnancy, should supplement their daily diet with a multi-vitamin containing 0.4 mg of folic acid. To help reduce your risk of having a child born with Spina Bifida and other neural tube defects, folic acid should be present at least three months prior to conception. An adequate amount of folic acid is difficult to obtain through diet alone. Therefore, it is recommended to take a daily multi-vitamin or folic acid supplement
SBAWI attends various health, wellness, and informational fairs throughout the year. Folic acid information is distributed in both English and Spanish. Click on our calendar of events to see when we might be in your area or contact the office to set up a date for our staff to come and present information.
SBAWI FOLIC ACID AWARENESS EFFORTS The “Bee Cool, Bee Ready” Campaign This campaign was designed to bring the folic acid message to teens and young women, to start healthy habits early. Introductory fliers are sent to Wisconsin high school teachers and college and university health centers at the end of August. Representatives from SBAWI are available for presentations to your group or event.
